Field note N°168 · Strain review

Biscotti strain

In one line

Biscotti is an indica-leaning Cookies-family hybrid listed as Gelato #25 x Sour Florida OG. Leafly credits Cookies Farms; Weedmaps credits Connected Cannabis Co. and dates the cross to 2016. Published profiles lead with caryophyllene, then limonene and myrcene. Reviewers describe sweet cookie, coffee and cocoa over diesel.

Dense cannabis canopy seen from above

Biscotti is an indica-leaning Cookies-family hybrid listed by Leafly as Gelato #25 x Sour Florida OG. Its published terpene profile leads with caryophyllene, then limonene and myrcene. Reviewers describe sweet cookie dough with coffee, cocoa and a diesel edge. As of October 3, 2026, sources still disagree on who bred it, and one alternate pedigree is in circulation.

Leafly writes the OG parent as Sour Florida OG and Weedmaps as South Florida OG. Neither page explains the difference, and we found no source that treats them as two different plants.

Who bred Biscotti?

Two credits are in print:

Claim Where it appears What it would mean
Cookies Farms Leafly Biscotti is part of the Cookies Gelato program
Connected Cannabis Co., 2016 Weedmaps Biscotti came from a separate California brand working Gelato #25

Weedmaps adds an account it attributes to Connected co-founder Caleb Counts: an employee named Fandango made the first cross, and Berner, who founded Cookies, joined the phenotype hunt and named the keeper. We could not find that account in a statement from either company, so treat it as reported, not confirmed. If it holds, both credits are partly right.

Both credits agree on Gelato #25 as a parent and on a Florida OG line as the other. The disagreement is about who made the cross, not what went into it. For a buyer, the pedigree matters more than the brand credit, and the pedigree is the better-supported part.

How does Biscotti smell and taste?

Leafly describes “sweet cookies with undertones of diesel,” with butter, honey and vanilla in reviews. Weedmaps puts coffee, cocoa, earthy sweetness and toasted dough up front, with “pepper, fuel, and darker Kush funk” underneath. Its flavor tags split earthy 36%, coffee 33% and sweet 31%.

The pepper fits caryophyllene. The fuel comes from the OG side. Coffee, cocoa and dough are not single-terpene notes, and a standard COA does not measure what produces them. A high terpene total means a loud jar, but it does not tell you whether the jar smells like dough or diesel.

Reported effects: Leafly reviewers describe relaxed, creative and “buzzy from head-to-toe.” Weedmaps tags are relaxed (40%), happy (31%) and euphoric (29%). These are buyer reports, and none of this is medical advice.

Grow and phenotype notes

  • Leafly lists Biscotti as hard to grow, short to medium in height, with medium yield.
  • Flowering runs 8 to 9 weeks indoors.
  • Weedmaps lists 21-30% THC across reported samples. Leafly’s headline figure is 21%, and one Leafly reviewer reports a Connected-branded jar tested at 26.8%.
  • Biscotti is also a parent. Seed Junky Genetics used it in Permanent Marker, listed as (Biscotti x Sherb Bx) x Jealousy.

A hard-to-grow cultivar varies more between growers. Two Biscotti Batches from different farms can differ more than the name suggests.

What to check on a Biscotti COA

  1. Batch code matches the bag.
  2. Delta-9 THC at or below 0.3% on a dry-weight basis, which is the federal test until December 11, 2026.
  3. Total THC = delta-9 + (THCA x 0.877). Example: 25.6% THCA with 0.18% delta-9 gives 22.63%.
  4. Terpene order. Caryophyllene leading, with limonene and myrcene behind it, fits the published file.
  5. Reporting basis. Look for “dry weight” or “as received,” plus a moisture figure. See the log below.
  6. Lab with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and a verifiable sample ID.

Log 2026-10-03: dry weight versus as received

The federal hemp definition sets its 0.3% limit “on a dry weight basis” (7 U.S.C. 1639o). USDA’s production rule uses the same basis (7 CFR 990.25). Some COAs report results “as received,” with the sample’s water still in it. Water adds weight, so as-received percentages read lower.

Convert with: dry-weight % = as-received % / (1 - moisture fraction).

As received Moisture Dry weight Against 0.3%
0.28% delta-9 10% 0.31% Over
0.25% delta-9 10% 0.28% Under
23.0% THCA 11% 25.8% (counted in total THC from December 11)

As of October 3, 2026, the statutory hemp definition looks at delta-9 THC for flower in commerce. USDA’s pre-harvest test for licensed growers already counts THCA, so it is the field sample, not the bag, that is held to total THC today. From December 11, 2026, Section 781 of P.L. 119-37, timed by H.R. 6500, counts THCA in total THC. At that point a Biscotti Batch at 25.8% dry-weight THCA is far over the limit whatever its moisture. The dry-weight check matters now. After December 11, the THCA number decides the question for flower like this.

Asked at the desk

What is Biscotti a cross of?

Leafly lists Gelato

Who bred Biscotti?

Sources split. Leafly says Cookies Farms bred it. Weedmaps credits Connected Cannabis Co. in 2016 and relays an account from Connected co-founder Caleb Counts, who says an employee named Fandango made the cross and Berner joined the phenotype hunt and named the keeper. That account would explain why both names get the credit.

Is Biscotti indica or sativa?

Leafly calls it an indica-dominant hybrid. The terpene panel on the Batch COA tells you more about how a jar will smell than the indica or sativa label.

What does dry weight mean on a Biscotti COA?

Federal hemp limits are set on a dry-weight basis. A COA reported "as received" includes moisture, so its percentages read lower than the dry-weight figures. Divide by one minus the moisture fraction to convert.
