Field note N°170 · Strain review

Rainbow Belts strain

In one line

Rainbow Belts is a hybrid of Zkittlez x Moonbow #75, credited by Weedmaps to Archive Seed Bank in Portland, Oregon. Moonbow is listed as Zkittlez x Do-Si-Dos, so on paper Rainbow Belts is about three-quarters Zkittlez. Leafly lists caryophyllene, linalool and limonene as its lead terpenes. Reviewers describe lemon-lime, grapefruit, berry and tropical fruit over diesel and pepper.

Hemp leaves in deep shadow, shallow focus

Rainbow Belts is Zkittlez crossed with Moonbow #75, a hybrid that Weedmaps credits to Archive Seed Bank in Portland, Oregon. Moonbow is itself listed as Zkittlez x Do-Si-Dos, so by pedigree Rainbow Belts is about three-quarters Zkittlez. Reviewers describe lemon-lime and grapefruit up front, with diesel and pepper underneath.

How much Zkittlez is in Rainbow Belts?

About 75% by pedigree. Zkittlez supplies half directly. Moonbow supplies the other half, and Moonbow is half Zkittlez:

Line Share via Zkittlez parent Share via Moonbow Total by pedigree
Zkittlez 50% 25% 75%
Do-Si-Dos (GSC x Face Off OG) 0% 25% 25%

Pedigree fractions are averages. Each seed inherits its own mix, which is why the breeder’s selected number (#75 for the Moonbow parent) matters.

There is one open question on attribution. Weedmaps says Cookies bred Moonbow. Leafly credits Archive Seed Bank and notes a Moonbow #112 IX release in 2022, and Archive’s own catalog uses Moonbow #75 as a parent and sells a “Moonbow 112 Hybrids” line. As of October 3, 2026, the Archive credit for both Moonbow and Rainbow Belts is the better-supported claim. Leafly also names Purple City Genetics alongside Archive for Rainbow Belts; we found no statement from either breeder that explains the split.

What does Rainbow Belts smell and taste like?

Weedmaps describes a sequence: “Sharp lemon-lime citrus and grapefruit” first, then “apricot, ripe berry, mango, and tropical fruit,” with floral sweetness and a finish of “diesel, pepper, and earthy funk.” AllBud reports “sweet lemon lime with hints of ripe grapes and spicy berries.”

Leafly lists caryophyllene first, then linalool and limonene, with humulene fourth and myrcene near the bottom. That fits the ancestry: Zkittlez and Do-Si-Dos both list caryophyllene in their top two and linalool in their top three. Pepper and diesel fit caryophyllene, citrus fits limonene, and the floral sweetness fits linalool. Moonbow itself has no published profile in the sources checked.

Reported effects on Weedmaps are relaxed (43%), happy (29%) and euphoric (29%). Weedmaps reviewers describe an opening that feels “giggly, euphoric, and ready to talk,” settling into “a calmer, heavier body feel.” These are buyer reports, and none of this is medical advice.

Grow and phenotype notes

  • Leafly and Weedmaps both give about 65 days of flowering. Weedmaps says it grows indoors, outdoors or in greenhouses.
  • The three databases describe the buds differently. Weedmaps reports dense buds with purple, pink or blue tones. Leafly’s grow note says “whispy nugs with curly bright orange hairs.” AllBud describes “fluffy rounded popcorn-shaped forest green nugs with purple undertones.” Expect phenotype and grow differences between Batches.
  • Where a cut does run to popcorn structure, it means more small buds per plant. Those small buds are often sold separately as smalls. Size does not change the chemistry, so the COA is what to judge.

What to check on a Rainbow Belts COA

  1. Batch code matches the bag.
  2. Delta-9 THC at or below 0.3% dry weight, the federal hemp test until December 11, 2026.
  3. Total THC = delta-9 + (THCA x 0.877). Example: 24.0% THCA with 0.16% delta-9 gives 21.21%.
  4. Terpenes. Caryophyllene first with linalool and limonene behind it matches the published profile. A myrcene-dominant panel matches neither Rainbow Belts’ listing nor Zkittlez or Do-Si-Dos, so ask about the cut.
  5. Lab with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and a verifiable sample ID.

Log 2026-10-03: where the 0.877 comes from

As of October 3, 2026, the statutory hemp definition tests delta-9 THC at 0.3% dry weight (7 U.S.C. 1639o). THCA is not delta-9. It is the acid form the plant makes, and it turns into delta-9 THC when heated, losing a carboxyl group as carbon dioxide.

Compound Molar mass Role
THCA about 358.5 g/mol What raw flower mostly contains
Delta-9 THC about 314.5 g/mol What THCA becomes when heated
Ratio 314.5 / 358.5 = 0.877 Converts THCA % into its maximum THC yield

That ratio is why total THC = delta-9 + (THCA x 0.877). USDA already uses this conversion for pre-harvest crop testing (7 CFR 990.1). Section 781 of P.L. 119-37 writes THCA into the hemp definition itself. Under H.R. 6500, that applies to THCA from December 11, 2026. A Rainbow Belts Batch at 24% THCA comes out at about 21% total THC, roughly 70 times the limit. In Oregon and other adult-use states, licensed dispensaries sell it as marijuana, and the change does not affect them.
